Event Production of Janssen-Cilag's Sales Conference

Our ability to adapt was emphasised when we undertook the event production for the Janssen-Cilag pharmaceutical sales conference. The initial brief requested both pre-event development and on-site production services from The Creativity Works team. All straight forward you would think.

However, as the days passed things began to develop. Our client decided that the 3 day sales conference should incorporate a major product launch, and things then started to move on apace. The opening ceremony became a glitzy affair with laser shows and music. The product manager requested that the new product, a treatment for fungal toe infection should be put on trial at the conference. And by trial, that’s exactly what he meant!

Our script writer devised a 20 minute piece of theatre. We sourced and built a full court scene and the star of the show, the infected toe in all its green fungally glory, was created as a human sized costume to be worn on stage throughout the drama. As well as this, all characters were to be played by key members of our client’s team. They say never work with animals and children, but there suddenly appeared to be a new category to add to that statement! Some theatre training ensued and several rehearsals later, we had a more than passable production.

So how about the trial? The delegates interactively voted at the end of proceedings, having heard all the evidence for and against, to decide the fate of the ‘toe’. Concluding a piece of theatre with no predetermined end therefore required two separate sequences. The solution was to film the announcements as if they were made to the press outside the courtroom. The Royal Courts of Justice on The Strand in London was chosen as the location with a cast of professional actors, film crew and a crowd of barracking ‘extras'. With these endings ‘in the can’, both were cued and ready to run at the staged trial. As the drama reached its finale, events cut to screen, and to the sounds of a cheering audience, the verdict was announced.

Delegate gifts, promotional materials and a glitzy gala dinner with entertainment completed the event package and made for a fantastic evening.

And the verdict from the trial? The toe was vindicated with a not guilty decision from the delegate ‘jury’ and the new product adjudged the star of the show!
